1. Request EV Charging Technical Assistance
2. Meet with a technical Expert
3. Schedule a site visit to begin planning your project
4. Select a qualified contractor from our Trade Ally network or use your own
5. Apply for AMP’s Multi-family Building EV Charger rebates and receive up to $48,000!

AMP Multi-family Building EV Charger Rebate: Get Up to $48,000

Purchase and install level-2 EV charging stations and ports at your multi-family service address to become eligible for cash rebates. To confirm eligibility and receive pre-approval contact an EV team member at rebates@alamedamp.com.

AMP’s Multi-family EV charger rebate consists of $4,000 for each level 2 charging port.

The $4,000 rebate for each level 2 charging port (up to 12) can be used toward the cost of the charging station(s), additional ports, the cost of installation (including any necessary electrical upgrades) and the cost of a city permit.

HOW TO APPLY
Before starting a project, contact an EV team member at EV@alamedamp.com confirm eligibility and receive pre-approval.

Once pre-approval is received, enroll in AMP’s free EV Technical Assistance Program (EVTAP) to receive expert consultation in planning your project.

Follow these steps to apply for your AMP rebate once installation is complete (see program details for installation information):


  1. Complete the online application form.

  2. Submit the following for verification:

    • All final payment invoice(s) for services and/or equipment related to EV charger installation. This might include invoice(s) for installation services, electrical work, and the purchase of the charger(s).

    • Copy of signed and completed City of Alameda permit.

    • Photos of the completed installation on site.


  3. Please allow 8-12 weeks for rebate checks to be delivered.

Before You Apply:
Before installing your new charging stations, follow these 3 steps:

  1. Consult the city of Alameda’s Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Checklist and the California EV guidebook for permitting requirements and best practice suggestions

  2. Submit a completed EV charger information form to AMP for approval*

  3. Submit a completed permit application to the city of Alameda permit center**


*Send form to AMP by email or submit directly to the AMP engineering office at 2000 Grand Street. For questions, call the AMP engineering main line at 510-748-5676. AMP will verify local power availability prior to permit application.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Customer is solely responsible for installation of all rebated products to the manufacturer’s specifications.

  • AMP reserves the right to reject any application that is incomplete or fails to meet the program requirements.

  • Customer agrees that AMP reserves the right to inspect the installation premises of the charging stations for 24 months after the date of application or request additional documentation prior to rebate payment. The rebate may be revoked by AMP if this condition is not met by the customer.

  • Alameda Municipal Power disclaims all liability, loss, or damage that may arise because of the applicant's participation in this program.

  • AMP reserves the right to modify or discontinue this program without prior notice at its discretion.

Eligibility

  • This rebate is available to multi-family residential buildings within Alameda Municipal Power’s service territory.

  • Multifamily buildings must have a minimum of four (4) units.

  • Multifamily buildings must be pre-qualified by an AMP EV representative.

  • The charging station(s) must be installed in a shared parking location not assigned or dedicated to tenants or owners.

  • Rebates are limited to Level 2 EVSEs and must be installed with a J1772 plug.

  • Effective program date is 1/1/2022. Only purchases made on or after the start date are eligible.

  • The rebate is available only to multi-family building's owner or managers. Please consult the AMP’s EV team at EV@alamedamp.com to confirm eligibility.

  • Charging station installation and any electrical upgrade work must be performed by an electrician with a valid C-10 license.

  • Qualifying charging stations:


    • Must be new, and not used, resold, or rebuilt

    • Must be wall or pedestal-mounted, not portable

    • Must be certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL Listed); or be ETL Listed

    • Must not be received from warranty insurance claims.


Requirements

  • Funding is limited and is provided on first come, first-serve basis

  • Rebates amounts are up to $4,000 per Level 2 ports.

  • Maximum of twelve (12) level 2 charging ports can be rebated per service address.

  • The total rebate cannot exceed $48,000.

  • Rebate can be applied toward any combination of the following:

    • The cost of the charging station(s).

    • The costs of charging station installation, including any necessary electrical upgrades.

    • The cost of a city permit (obtained through the city of Alameda permit center).

  • The EV charger rebate amount cannot exceed pre-tax purchase price.


Recommendations:

AMP: Used All-Electric Vehicle Rebate (Residential)

Buy a used (pre-owned) battery electric vehicle (BEV) and you may be eligible for a cash rebate of up to $6,000. This rebate only applies to used all-electric vehicles with a purchase price between $10,000 - $40,000.


  • The standard AMP rebate for a battery electric vehicle (BEV) is up to $1,500

  • For income-qualified customers, the rebate is up $6,000




The great news for income-qualified customers is that AMP's used all-electric vehicle rebate can be combined with one of the two state and local programs below that offer additional cash grants.

1. Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Clean Cars for All program (you must turn in a used gas vehicle to qualify)
2. California Air Resources Board’s Clean Vehicle Assistance Program

  • Effective date of this program is February 1, 2023. Only used battery electric vehicles purchased on or after this date, as identified by the DMV bill of sale attached to the application, are eligible.

  • The rebate is available only to current AMP residential (D1) customers.

  • No more than one (1) used BEV rebate per customer account in any 5-year period.

  • Limit one used BEV rebate per vehicle.

  • Rebate is only for used BEVs with a purchase price between $10,000 - $40,000

  • Purchase agreement must be dated within 3 months of application

  • Eligible vehicles must have a model date before January 1, 2021 (2021 models are not eligible)

Eligibility
All AMP residential customers are eligible for the standard used BEV rebate. To qualify for the income-qualified rebate, you must be enrolled in AMP’s Energy Assistance Program (EAP), which gives you an automatic 25% discount on your monthly AMP bills.   • The rebate amount cannot exceed pre-tax purchase price

  • The used BEV must be registered at the customer's service address

  • Customer must provide a copy of the permanent vehicle registration

    • Customer agrees that AMP reserves the right to verify continued registration of the rebated used BEV at customer’s AMP service address for 24 months after the date of application, or request additional documentation prior to rebate payment. Rebate may be revoked by AMP if this condition is not met by the customer.

    • Rebates are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Rebates and incentives are offered until approved funds are exhausted. The submission of a claim form does not guarantee payment.

    • Alameda Municipal Power reserves the right to modify or end this rebate program at any time without prior notice.

    • Alameda Municipal Power disclaims any and all liability, loss, or damage that may arise as a result of the applicant's participation in this program.



AMP Residential EV Charger Rebate up to $500

Purchase and install a level 2 (240V) electric vehicle charger at home and receive a rebate reward card worth up to $500.

AMP is offering this cash rebate to encourage residential customers to take advantage of AMP’s 100% clean energy by charging their EVs at a home charger in Alameda.

Level 2 chargers, known as electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), provide charging through a 240V AC plug. Level 2 charging provides about 10 to 60 miles of range to an electric vehicle’s battery per hour of charging time, making it quicker and more convenient than standard 120V AC charging, which provides only about 2 to 5 miles per hour of charging.

This rebate can only be used towards the purchase price of a level 2 home charger.

  2. Install with the help of a contractor or licensed electrician, as needed.

  3. Complete and sign the application.

  4. Submit images of the following, as applicable:

    • Installed EV charger and charger serial number

    • Receipt or paid invoice from the charger purchase



  5. Please allow 8-12 weeks for rebate checks to be delivered.

  • A charger with multiple ports, or plugs, is considered one unit and is eligible for a single rebate.

  • Rebate can only be used towards cost of the charging station.

  • Qualifying level 2 (240-volt) charging stations:

    • Must be new, and not used, resold or rebuilt.

    • Must be wall or pedestal-mounted, and not portable.

    • Must be certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL Listed); or ETL Listed

    • Must not be received from warranty insurance claims.






Permitting

  • Installing a level 2 charger requires an over-the-counter permit from the city of Alameda.

  • Residents or installers can apply at the permit center Monday - Thursday, 7:30am - 3:00pm. Click here for details.

  • AMP is not verifying permit information as part of this rebate application.

  • Customer agrees that all credits allowed by the State of California's low carbon fuel standard credits program are the property of and belong to AMP. Customer agrees not to take any actions to generate such credits to their account. Customer further agrees to assign any such credits to AMP.

  • AMP reserves the right to modify or discontinue this program without prior notice at its discretion.

AMP Commercial EV Charger Rebate: Get Up to $5,000

Purchase and install a maximum of ten (10) level-2 EV charging ports at your non-residential service address to become eligible for cash rebates.

AMP’s commercial EV charger rebate consists of $500 for each level 2 charging port up to ten (10) ports.

The $500 rebate for each level 2 charging port (up to 10) can be used toward the cost of the charging station(s), the cost of installation (including any necessary electrical upgrades), and the cost of a city permit.

Eligible customers include commercial and non-profit organizations, schools, churches, government entities and all other AMP customers in the A1, A2, A3, M1 or M3 rate category.

  • Qualifying charging stations:

    • Must be new, and not used, resold or rebuilt

    • Must be wall or pedestal-mounted, not portable

    • Must be certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL Listed); or be ETL Listed

    • Must not be received from warranty insurance claims



  • Eligible electrical upgrades:

    • Must be permitted

    • May include a new 240-volt outlet and/or circuit, and a new or upgraded panel
